I did not grow up eating liver. I grew up being threatened with liver.
So when the internet decided freeze-dried beef organs were a feminine energy practice, I did what any reasonable person would do: I bought a bottle, opened it, smelled it, and considered moving.
I am a mom of five, including twins. I care about iron, energy, and not fainting in the grocery store more than I care about ancestral branding. Beef organ supplements are freeze-dried liver (and often heart, kidney, spleen) in capsules so you do not have to cook the organ. They are not a personality. They are a dense food in a pill. If you want the brand-vs-brand nerding, I already wrote Primal Queen vs the category and a beef organ overview. This is how to start without wasting $60 on a bottle you will hide behind the spices.
This is not medical advice. If you have hemochromatosis, are pregnant, or your ferritin is a whole plotline, talk to the person who ordered the labs.
What you are swallowing (so the smell makes sense)
Liver is high in vitamin A, B12, copper, and heme iron. Heart is a muscle food (CoQ10 shows up in the marketing). Kidney is the one people skip because of the idea of kidney.
Freeze-dried means the water is gone and the nutrients are concentrated. Capsules keep you from tasting it if you do not breathe in when the lid comes off. That is the whole skill.
You are not “detoxing.” You are eating an organ in slow motion.
Week 1: half the serving, with food, not on an empty stomach
The #1 way people quit: six large capsules on an empty stomach, then a wave of “why is my life like this.”
What I actually do:
- Take half the label serving for seven days. If the bottle says 6, start at 3.
- With breakfast. Fat in the meal helps. Coffee-only is how nausea stories start.
- Do not open the bottle under your nose like a wine tasting.
- Swallow with a full glass of water. Dry-swallowing six capsules is a hobby for other people.
If you feel nothing at day seven, that is normal. These are food. Food is not a pre-workout.
If you feel flu-ish or your skin goes weird, stop. Vitamin A is not a more-is-more vitamin. That is the opposite of the TikTok “just take more.”
Primal Queen vs Ancestral — pick by the reason you are here
You do not need both.
Primal Queen is the women’s-hormone, postpartum, “this is for me” bottle. Grass-fed organs, marketed at the exact person who will never sauté liver on a Wednesday. 25% off through my link. If you want the full ingredient argument, it is in the Primal Queen review.
Primal Queen — 25% off
The women's organ capsule I send to friends who will not cook liver. Start at half serving with breakfast. 25% off through this link.
Shop Primal Queen →Ancestral Supplements is the legacy ancestral-health bottle — liver, or blends, without the pink branding. If you already live in that world, this is the one. Code UNCMOM is 15% off. I keep this in the “I want liver, not a lifestyle kit” column.
Ancestral Supplements — 15% off UNCMOM
Use code UNCMOM at checkout. Liver-first, less branding. Same rule: half serving, with food, do not wine-taste the bottle.
Shop Ancestral Supplements →If you also eat actual food for protein, organs do not replace Equip or Flourish. Different job. Organs are micronutrients. Protein is grams.
The taste problem is usually the lid
- Store them somewhere cool and dry. A hot car turns the smell up.
- Do not dump capsules into your palm and pause to text.
- If even capsules are a no, you are allowed to skip this trend. Steak and a prenatal (if you still need one) is a valid life.
I will not tell you to blend raw liver. We are past that.
Who should not “just try it”
- Anyone told to limit vitamin A or iron.
- Pregnancy unless your clinician is in on it — liver is high in vitamin A.
- People who use organs as a substitute for eating because the bottle feels like atonement.
If your goal is energy and your sleep is four hours, fix sleep before you buy spleen.
FAQ
How long until I “feel” it?
Some people notice energy in a couple of weeks. Some people notice nothing except that they swallowed capsules. If your ferritin was the issue, labs beat vibes. Give it 30 days at a full serving only if week one was fine.
Can I take them with a prenatal?
Maybe. Prenatals already have vitamin A and iron. Stacking liver on top is how you accidentally mega-dose. Ask the person who knows your prenatal. Needed is the prenatal I actually send people to — do not freelance the stack.
Why do people say it balances hormones?
Organs are nutrient-dense. Nutrients help a body that was running on toast. That is not the same as a hormone clinic. Be suspicious of anyone who says a capsule replaced their endocrinologist.
Can kids take them?
Not from my blog. Pediatric dosing is a clinician conversation. I am a former pediatric SLP, not your child’s doctor.
The start line
Half serving. With food. One brand. Primal Queen if you want the women’s formula and 25% off. Ancestral if you want liver without the campaign, code UNCMOM. Do not buy a 12-organ variety pack on day one because a creator had a ring light.
If you cannot get the capsules down, you are not failing ancestral living. You are a person who might just need a burger with the liver left at the butcher.
